I have the Stanley version, probably the one Nick mentioned, and I don't like it at all. I made a spokeshave using the hardware kits Lee Valley sells, and it is a much better tool. http://www.leevalley.com/en/wood/page.aspx?50230&cat=1&p=49710

It is accurate to adjust, and you can set it to cut deeply like a spokeshave on one side and take fine cuts on the other without stopping to adjust-very handy when roughing things out. I did a writeup on the kit in an issue of Wooden Boat a while back. I think it was issue 178.

For paddle making the sole is too short to not get waves, and I use a good sanding block to "joint," or "flatten" the surfaces, but what I'd really like is to make a Krenov-style block plane that has a blade the width of a #4 or #4 1/2 bench plane but a sole that's only about 4 1/2" (12cm) long. It would take off the high spots a lot faster and cleaner than sanding, and the width would let me do an entire side in one pass without the need to overlap, just like I can do with my bigger spokeshave.
