Mine are 3/4" square but if the bends are tough to make, I just laminate them from strips so they are easy to bend. The 3/4" width allows for a decent glue bond area. I don't use any mechanical fasteners in mine, it's just thickened epoxy. Once the epoxy sets any mechanical fasteners could be just removed anyway, add almost nothing to the overall strength.
