Pie piece (or pizza slice if you want) skeg shape works pretty well, it's very damage resistant and tends to hinge back up into the slot if you hit something.

That was Reg Lake's choice, and I followed his concept. It works well and so far no problems, and I've hit things with it a few times. :-(
