I will put in fore and aft bulkheads and deck hatches. The racing class I am shooting for, dictates both for the "Run of the Charles" race. I wrestled with the idea of a surfski cockpit for a long time and finally decided against it. For a non-production boat a surfski cockpit adds time of construction, weight and complexity. IMHO: the big benefit a surfski cockpit contributes is a lot less shipped water, an important safety concern in high surf conditions but not in the rivers for which this boat will be used.

I will probably make a tiller, which much easier and lighter to fabricate.
