Most any glue is slippery when you try to glue scarfs, the wood wants to slide apart, making for a thin spot. One of the many reasons I don't use scarfed strips. If you clamp each side outside the scarfed area before you clamp the scarf, it won't happen as much. They are relatively easy to judge where to join them when they are dry, less easy wet with glue.
