Really is an interesting idea and most plastic melts at a temperature much higher than wet steam, so that shouldn't be an issue.

Looked it up, regular old poly melts around 230 degrees F. so that's not an issue. Can easily get poly tubing whatever width you want, though it normally comes on big rolls. I'd imagine smaller quantities can be found, it's normally used for shipping small parts with a heat sealer, so that might make it easier to find.
