I have built the Yukon and like it a lot. You will be fine with size 12.
I don't know how much wood I used but it would be less than needed for the Mystery. For strippers I buy two 20' 5/4 x 6" wrc and one or two shorter boards and rip from there If you search the posts you should find posts where I answered questions about the build. thx
