I too have the Festool after "burning out" many sanders over the years. Variable speed, strong motor and purported to last longer. The salesman told me it would be the last sander I ever bought - we'll see about that since it gets heavy use for long periods of time. Only thing is that only Festool paper fits on the hole configuration, so expect to be beholden to them if you buy one. I still think scraping is faster and cheaper than going through sandpaper. In the 15 plus years of boat building, I have only replaced my Lee Valley cabinet scrapers once and have never replaced my molding scrapers.
