I too have the Festool after "burning out" many sanders over the years.

That's very interesting. After 25 years of sanding I'm on my second ROS. Not true, my third.

Which reinforces my point, if you (not you Rod, somebody else) only use 80 grit you'll have to apply pressure to get results. Pressure will bog down the ROS and burn it out faster.

If you (not you Rod, somebody else) use 60 grit and light pressure it will cut faster, more aggressively and retain the fair surface naturally produced by the strips.

Only thing is that only Festool paper fits on the hole configuration, so expect to be beholden to them if you buy one.

I can see how you (now I do mean you Rod) could be less inclined to use the ROS if you are always thinking about how expensive those disks are!

Truth be told they wear out very quickly. Even sanding cedar! Forget about the manufacturer claims, the different disk sellers claims that their disks will last for 100 more miles. All you have to do is feel the grit when you install a new disk and feel it when you brain asks, "Is this thing still cutting?" Answer, not like before.

So will you press harder and press on, or put on a new disk?

This is why I've been advocating the use of 60 grit to start. Cuts faster with less pressure, doesn't clog as fast and will last longer, make you more hansom, and you'll win the lottery. Ya, that's the ticket!
