Minimum usually is a 5 hp 2 stage compressor and best if it's located outside the shop, both because it's noisy and sucks up far less dust from the shop into the air supply.

The air tools though are noisy, best to wear hearing protection. You get used to it. I started doing fiberglass work using polyester resin, you have to get used to many nasty sounds and smells or you find some other work to do.

Wood boats are much nicer to work on, just often don't pay very well.
