Hold a scrap of timber firmly against the side where the drill will emerge. That is enough to stop tear-out.
Or even simpler, drill a small pilot hole right through. A bit of tear out doesn't matter. Enlarge the hole from each side and any tear-out will be removed. Sometimes I enlarge the hole in a couple of stages.
