So-
First of all- many builders will say that the trouble with continuous lashing is that if abrasion or something else damages the lashing and it breaks, all of your lashes with the same line of sinew will loosen up. If you loose one joint, it's only one joint. There is also less opportunity for something like that to happen, because you don't have that lone line strung out between joints.
In practice, what I've found is that it is difficult to tighten and keep tight lashing while stretching between joints. It's somewhat mitigated by using waxed artificial sinew, because the artificial sinew really grips on itself. I don't think I'd even try it with a different type of cordage.
I have done it both ways. I prefer individual lashing. The number of joints doesn't change whether you do individual or continuous lashing, just the length of the line you lash with. I find it easier to manage 20 inches of line at a time over 28 or 30 feet. I also find that it is easier to get the tightness right if you lash one joint at a time.
On a side note- I absolutely destroyed my hands on my first SOF doing continuous lashing. I did not have that issue with subsequent projects using individual lashing. Could be completely unrelated, but there it is.
