I got a chance to watch some of this. It's definitely educational, and very helpful. From my the search most of the restoration doesn't worry me. The only thing I'm concerned with is finding a clean dry place to store a kayak that's off-gassing oil alkyd filler fumes for 6 weeks.

I'm intrigued by the mastic you are using instead. I've been using an elastomeric roofing mastic called jaxsan 600 to seal my skin boats for years. The story of how I found it is probably a bit long winded for here, but I wonder if it's comparable to the rt-10? It's acrylic instead of latex based, and is also fiber reinforced. I have achieved some smooth surfaces on non-boat projects, but have never really tried for totally smooth. I can say from experience that it's incredibly water proof, fire resistant(very important on a canoe I know), makes an amazing paint base, sticks to anything, is flexible, and gets tougher with age. I also know that it fills fabric without issue. I have painter colleague who reported that after a year that a sandblast couldn't remove it from steel. Thoughts?
