Also worthwhile for newbie paddlers a drysuit isn't the end all, you can freeze to death nearly as quickly wearing one and you can without one. It allows for insulation to be worn under it and that insulation can then stay dry, without that insulation the dry suit offers no warmth at all when in contact with cold water.
Btw, timely Jeff, we somehow always seem to lose a few every year on Lake Michigan with it's normally cold spring time waters. Not quite as likely this year since the lake actually froze.
