Hi Mike, I have no experience with the Yukon recess only with the Night Heron, I'm sure some of the better builders(which I'm not) will chime in and give you the the right info.That being said my method is to cut out the recess as per plans keeping the saw as vertical as possible, then I start at the forward end and strip as straight as possible across the opening keeping the strips going straight across, One last tip is to glass a strip on the joint on the inside, this is where the most stress takes place when entering and exiting the yak.
