Epoxy can blush for a week or so. If the epoxy has been sitting for a while, you can probably assume that blushing stopped and you would be OK with just a sanding. The problem is you never really know if the sander is pushing blush around in the process.

Why don't you use an abrasive pad and some water with a tiny bit of soap and scrub it and wipe it clean before sanding. You could do that in 10 minutes. It's probably not what you wanted to hear but I would hate to lead you with a guess and have you get a similar problem. It sounds paranoid but everyone has experienced a problem like yours at some time or another and You just don't want to take any chances of it happening again. Good luck with it.
