I have finished the hull and deck stripping and glassing. Installed Teflon tubing for the rudder control lines, built the footrest/tiller bar assembly, Maroske fittings, and cut deck hatches. Just this morning I joined the hull and deck.
Below is fiberglass flange for the deck hatches. I decided to include fore and aft hatches because they make joining the hull and deck halves easier. I wrapped the hatches with clear packing tape to make separation easier. Then applied two layers of 9 ounce tape. The dark lines are the Teflon tubing that will guide the rudder control lines which will be 1.8 mm Kevlar speargun line.
Below is the footrest/tiller bar assembly. The cross bar that pulls the rudder control lines is 3/4" PVC plumbing pipe.
The assembly rides on a 12mm Baltic birch plywood track each side. I elected to apply a contrasting western red cedar boot strip at the design waterline which made lining up the Baltic birch tracks much easier.
Below the tape measure below is the part that slides on the Baltic birch tracks. It is made of about 6 wrappings of 4 ounce glass around a Baltic birch strip that had been previously wrapped with duck tape and packing tape such that it is about 0.025" wider than the plywood. It is adjusted by means of 1/4" quick release pins. Above the tape measure are the hookholds that will provide internal hold down for the hatches.
It's a kayak.
