They don't weigh much (26 lbs) and would tend to ride high in the water.

Remember that how a boat floats is not just a function of how much the boat weights. The displacement is all the weight in the boat. If you weight 180 lbs it doesn't matter much if the boat is 26 or 46 pounds, the boat can be designed to float appropriately at any weight.
