Sanding with 2000 will produce a silk look not a shine, needs to be polished after the sanding to get the shine. There are several articles online and You tube videos too, but they are under the auto body headings. Once the varnish is completely dry it can be what's called color sanded (the process was developed for paint) and then polished. Varnish is basically just paint without pigment, so the process is very similar.
