I've owned a couple strong-tracking boats and I don't own either of them any longer. I found that while strong tracking may make it easier to paddle in a straight line, it can be a major liability when you're in a situation where you need maneuverability. It can also cause control problems in certain wind/wave conditions. For these reason, I prefer maneuverable boats with retractable skegs, so I can tune the handling to the conditions. IMO, fixed skegs are a good way to ruin a boat.
Learning to paddle in a straight line is a skill that everyone needs to master and a stiff tracking boat won't help that process.
