My Greenland kayak I stretched the polyester skin without cutting. The Yost Sea Tour EXP I had to stitch the bow and stern. The stitching protects the verticals, I put oak rub strips on the keel, 1/4 x 3/4 x 8. Has held up fine, starting it's fifth season.
