I posted this in a continuation of my question about prep for revarnishing. No response, and probably deserves its own thread. The varnish surface seemed fine, other than scratches. I used 220 paper on my ROS to scuff the surface. Most of the scratches are still quite visible, so I made another pass. A few small blemishes in the epoxy showed up, but what concerns me most is that a section of the bottom shows a lot of cracks in the epoxy. This is under the forward part of the cockpit, not under my butt where you would have the greatest stress. I cannot figure out a cause. I don't think I have ever put weight in that area. So, will I gain anything by putting a new layer of epoxy in the effected area? Or do I need to cut/grind into the cracks, like gelcoat repair on a fiberglass car? (I have one of those too, but did not do body work.)
I was just going to lightly Dremmel the small blemishes and add a bleb of epoxy there. Should I do something similar with the scratches?
Thanks again for any advice.
John
