For some people, making and equipping the shop is the activity that brings them joy. The primary use of the shop is to make more, "better", outfitting for the shop. "Saving money" by finding stuff that can be adapted to upgrade the shop is part of the game.
For example, those jar hardware windmills. They take up a lot of room for not much storage, but they were probably fun to make.
To each his own.
