A general picture of the result of the outing is that I now resemble Quasimodo, with a normal right side and a gigantic distorted hump of muscle on my left shoulder.

In my mind you paddled the circuit in a clockwise direction.Next time go round anticlockwise,as well.That should even things up:)
But seriously,I have resisted the front Skeg idea after many instances of wishing for one because I think it would make it worse.
At over 25knot wind speed and with more than 10 km fetch the tops of the waves will be shearing off.The moving white water and the bow lifting up will just grip the bow biased skeg and put the boat into the trough.The next "biggie"will then push the bow further down wind and back paddling will be needed.Skegs need clean water to work as a foil.
I am resigned to paddling upwind first(paying it forward) having minimal wind exposure and little knock back (or around)for most of the way then with short blasts along the troughs to make way to port or starboard.Getting back to an upwind course is still going to be a Quasimodo workout,though.For less severe conditions a forward Skeg may be useful but so is loading up the front hatch.
