Do you wonder why there is no Biadarka in this race?

No Baidarka, perhaps, but there *are* still two kayaks in the R2AK: Team Mike's Kayak in an old Prijon, and Team John, who's got an outrigger attached to an EasyRider. The race itself has been incredible. Team Elsie Piddock finished first today in just over 5 days, covering 710 miles from Victoria BC to Ketchikan AK with no motor! There are still eighteen other boats on the course, racing for the steak knives. Watch the excitement at: http://tracker.r2ak.com

As for baidarkas and Johnstone Strait, check out Alan Dunham's recent article – and picture – in Coast & Kayak Magazine about paddling in Seymour Narrows, just south of Johnstone and every bit as treacherous: http://issuu.com/wildcoast/docs/15sp_webr/30
