Most hardwoods are a lot stronger than WRC so you can go thinner and save some weight. It does get a bit trickier to work with , I wouldn't do this for your first stripper. You have to keep the strips aligned carefully because you don't have extra material to sand to get it right if you get the strips misaligned. And keeping thin strips aligned isn't all that easy. It can work but it takes extra time and patience and experience to do it and keep it fairly light. If you get heavy with the glass, which is easy the first time, you can end up with a very heavy kayak.
