On the naked bars right side up or upside down.
Right side up on foam blocks the bars.
J cradles.
I just try to make sure it rests on the keel or on the gunwales. Strap it with Cam Straps, not ratchet and don't over tighten! Bow lines is a really good idea.
The cheap j-cradles on EBay actually work pretty well. I have 8 sets I use on my kayak trailer and while annoying to put together I like them a lot.
