The mako saddles bow and stern work fine. The rollers don't support any boat well, I've got a set and haven't used them since I sold my last poly boat.
You should have bow and stern lines for safety in the water, good idea to tie them down to the car, but the straps really only get snug at the wood members anyway, the skin obviously won't take the load.
