Kodiak Island is not in the Aleutian Islands so throw out that kayak and the rest are quite similar.
None of the different kayaks in your post have anything close to the shape of the Aleut iqyax or the volume of stern and bow.
I've never said there was anything "supernatural" about the baidarka or Aleuts. I never suggested they we from outer space.
Is it supernatural for a whitewater boater to learn to look at a raging river and see paths to travel?
To catch eddys, jet ferry, side surf a hole, or even eddy hop upstream?
Perhaps to people who don't paddle it is. You know it isn't because you've paddled whitewater. Magic yes, supernatural no.
Is it supernatural for sailors to move forward into the wind? To feel the wind changing? To see dark water and prepare for a gust to hit, or to know when to alter course to avoid winds changing as they move around an island, or headland?
Perhaps to people who don't sail. I don't know if you're a sailor.
These are all skills learned though years of study and observation and training. You start as a child and if you live near the water you are learning every day of your life.
Each of us have hundreds of skills learned over our lifetime, ones we don't even consider, it's what we do as humans, what we're good at, why we survive.
I think the Aleuts could read the waves, wind and currents of the seas like no other people on earth, because this is all they did from birth to death, the sea was their life. Is this supernatural? No. This is natural
Isn't it arrogance to think we can learn all there is to paddling on the seas in a couple generations. Do you think you know all there is to know about the sea, in your one lifetime? I don't think the sea gives up it's secrets that quickly. Believing this would be to diminish the Aleut's millenniums of skill.
All I'm suggesting is if you put the kayak, the paddler, and the local conditions together no one could match the Aleuts, now or then.
I'm suggesting there may be untapped potential in the design because most people think, "there's nothing new under the sun." and "I have all the answers."
And I still believe the Aleut kayak by itself is the best all round design for wind and waves.
