Other: NDK Greenlander repair? *PIC*

Greetings All,

I came across a craigslist deal where a guy was offloading his NDK Greenlander that mostly floats (has a small leak somewhere - ha...) and in need of major TLC for less than 100 bucks ;-)

I figured this would be a good use for the 1 gallon of Raka epoxy i picked up a few years ago to finish up the plywood stations on a Yost Skin on frame...however reading more about it - it seems epoxy is not the ideal resin when working with kayak repairs - polyester seems to be better?

Anyway onto the "battle damage" - short story - the guy I bought it from was the second owner and paddled it up in the Jersey area for many years and stored it outside for the last 4-5 years when relocating to Florida. The damage and repairs are mostly from the original owner who apparently was getting certified for a high level ACA ceritification that required him to land on a really rocky shore - this pretty much trashed the hull as you will see...the second owner purchased it for 50% of the new price back then - assuming around in 99'?

Besides hopefully minor fiberglass repair (for that small leak somewhere - didn't feel any soft spots during the quick inspection of the kayak) - It looks like mostly gelcoat repairs are needed? for the hull - I could sand the patches down flat, and hopefully find the leak and repair with fiberglass mat and hopefully gelcoat it mostly flush?

Would you say this kayak is worth repairing and maybe even refinishing?

If I were to refinish the kayak - I would want it a lighter color as I would probably cook in this thing during 6 months of the year (South Florida - lots of sun) - however to re-gelcoat seems very time intensive and probably wont yield a good result as a first timer?
