The fittings on the deck are an old school tow rig, works pretty well, I'd leave it, have the same thing on mine. With it's odd tail you have to tow off to one side or the other or you'll always catch the "tail" on the tow rope.

Unless you live in Greenland or some place equally cold all year you'll probably want to paint it anyway, with that round cockpit it'll get mighty toasty inside being all black in color. Mine's all medium yellow and it can get warm inside in the summer.
