Following Nick's link to CLC. I read the CLC post on Random Orbital Sanders.

Be advised sanding flat panels on a stitch-an-glue boat is different from sanding a stripper.

A lightweight, lower power sander like the Makita BO5041 3-Amp 4000-12000 OPM D-Handle Random Orbit Sander, 5-Inch, pictured is easier to use for hours on exterior AND interior curved surfaces.

Using the right sandpaper grit and disk speed is more important than power and weight.

Variable speed is very important. Reduce disk speed for detailed areas and near the edges of sheer lines and stems.

Every specialized building method requires specialized techniques to deal with the unique problems.

We borrow tools and methods from other builders, but we must not do so blindly. What works for them may not work for us. We must continue to pay attention to what we are doing, Keep in mind what we are trying to do, and stop and ask questions if it not working.

The right tool and technique should make work immediately, be productive and fun. If what you are doing is not working, stop and ask questions on this BB.
