John, I am going through that same dilemma right now. Got a partially built sculling wherry kit for a great price and finished it off for the experience. Nice boat, nice sliding set frame, nice oars. Tried it out twice first time just for 30 minutes and the second time for several miles. I get 20-25 feet per stroke which is pretty cool, can go about 50% faster than a kayak, burn some serious calories, but not really liking it especially the seeing where I have been part. Work is crazy right now but hopefully I can get out several more times before the freeze and decide if I like it.
