This is a Night Heron Hybrid, so yes it has an okoume plywood hull. Because I plan on painting the hull the end plys of the skeg box would show if a bright finish was used. But in Et's design the skeg box doesn't go thru the hull and, I think has a better look on the outside. I would try ET's design if a wood strip hull was being used, which of course means using a bright finish. But that being said Nick has come up with an awesome design. One feature that this skeg has that is a bit unusual is that it is offset to one side, meaning that it is not on the centerline of the boat. The reason for this, is so that less damage will be done to it when dragging it in and out of the water. Mine is not finished yet so I can't tell how well this works but have tried demo models and seems to work perfect. But the challenge is where to place it. Because the bottom of this boat is angling upward from the keel/centerline to the side of the boat it was going to be tough to get the proper angle for the skeg box. Well here is a picture of Rube Goldberg holding jig. The level is being used as a straight edge, and the blue triangle has a lip on the underside of it. This allowed me to get a line from gunnel to gunnel and a perpendicular line that would line up with one side of the skeg box. As far as left and right I placed one side of a 3/4" wood strip on the keel line and the other side against the side of the skeg box. As for as up and down placement, I going to leave that one for Nick to tell you. It is truly ingenious. I failed to mention and these pictures don't show it, but the transition from the outside of the hull and the skeg box will need to be glassed. Hope this helps.
