Jim, I think Nick's idea on the offset is very good, but just a note from a very old guy. At 87yrs I still want to keep in shape and I love kayaking,but the problem is getting out of the kayak with no help is a bear. My method is to beach the kayak with the stern then pull my legs over the sides then using the front coaming as leverage pull myself upright and that may very well grind sand and gravel into the slot. Hopefully someone will come up with a better method for me. mabe placing the skeg closer to the center might help?? Nick R.
