John,

Yes I did mean his pain was from the top of the back rest.
I've offered to change the angle of the back and round the upper edge more both vertically and horizontally), we haven't gotten there yet.

As for the seat, I've built a seat as you mention which ended up about the same thickness as the flat pad shown in the picture. Both seam to be just as comfortable from a pressure standpoint, so I agree the relatively thin section works fine. You really don't sink down very far into Minicell.

We also have two boats with different flexible back bands - one a stock Pygmy plastic backrest, the other homemade.
