Thanks for the insights on a keel, Bill. Although I could theoretically jerry-rig something, I think that would result in some crazy boat that's the worst of both worlds, perhaps. If I can't live with the boat the way she's designed, I'd rather sell her to someone who wants this type of boat.

I'm starting to realize that there's almost no way this is going to suit my purposes; I NEED stability on the open Potomac. And I need a spray skirt. I think I got "boat hoarderitis" when I saw this one for sale! I'm gonna give her a fair shot on that small pond--but I'll be shocked if she's not too tippy. (BTW, that red fiberglass kayak on my Shutterfly page tipped over and soaked me the first time I put her in the water, so I sold her a week later. A Bart Hauthaway design, I was told.)

Re. the coaming, there actually was/is a simple back piece to it, but it fell off when I first sat down in the boat. I plan to glue it back on after I sand everything down. If I get that far.
