John, I think this could be a fun project for the sake of restoring an old boat. As far as practical use I think you have a very specialized boat that has outlived it's practical life (there are better fast boats out there and if a person wants to go fast that badly they are going to buy a different boat). Even for a more general boat I doubt you could sell it for the money you will put into it.

If that's the case, then maybe I could use this boat for quick exercise; that "pond" near me (Roaches Run, next door to the Pentagon) is very still and shallow and much faster for me to access due to the side of the road it's on. So I could use this boat for just churning across the pond back/forth when I only have an hour or so, rather than going up/down the actual river.

Or, since it sounds like this boat is beyond its life as a sprint boat, maybe I have nothing to lose by gluing on some long keel strips to the hull before applying fiberglass.
