This allows you to see the wood grain and have an idea of how it will look on the boat. It allows you to concentrate on wood beauty and not board thickness.

Then cut the wide board face into 3/4” widths.


This method results in the flat grain (rather than edge-grain 'quarter sawn-look') showing on the outside surfaces of the boat, as I understand it...which is fine if that's the look you are after, I suppose.

Rob, don't you find that the amount of waste is very increased with this method? It seems that you'd have a lot of 'too thin' offcuts, but perhaps I'm visualizing this incorrectly.
