Marc: took your advice and bit the bullet and took off the latches and all the fiberglass on the bottom of the hatch cover. Next I'll put the hatch cover on the kayak and try and bend it to fit better and stop rainwater intrusion when its on top of the truck. I'm going back to the Pygmy style of hatch hold downs since the underdeck bungees didn't seem to pull the covers down tight enough. (Just bruised my hands when I tried to undo them.)
