You don't have to just use staples. You can staple at the stations and use tape or clamps or other methods to hold the strips in alignment between the stations. Or even hot glue. I just find it messy, little strands of hot melted glue all over the place.

You miss the point. Tape, clamps or other methods mean waiting for Titebond to cure before applying the next strip.

Tacking with hot glue means you wait 90 seconds from the last application.

I have not experienced hot glue webs all over the place.

There are also interior and exterior transverse strip bridging applications only possible using hot glue.
