Applying hot glue can be done with cheap hot glue guns, I did so for many years. Just stay away from "drooling" designs like some of the cheap "Surebonder" ones. I don't understand because Surebonder also makes the best expensive hot glue guns. Using the proper hot glue formula designed for wood is the key to success.

Perhaps the marketplace has changed. The last time we talked about hot glue problems you provided a link and info about the tools and glue you use. I checked the price and to get a gun and supply of glue sticks to me in Canada was well over $200 USD, IIRC. and, getting replacement glue would involve UPS brokerage fees (@$35+ for each order). So, a non-starter for me, since I'm not interested in 'wood look' kayaks any more, and staples work well with good quality form materials. I agree that staples don't hold well in 'junk' forms (particle board or cheap plywood with voids), but that's not an issue with most stripper designs which don't have very sharp curves. Something like the deck on a Frej/Njord would be a challenge for either staples or hot glue.

I've used 3 or 4 hot glue guns over the years (Bostik, 'Arrow' and ??- one was supposedly an 'industrial quality gun' @$75) and they all have 'drooled' glue and left tendrils all over the work. I generally leave the gun over a coffee can when not in my hand - and the can is thrown out when it has a couple of inches of melted glue ($10 worth) in the bottom. Glue sticks are the only ones easily available- 'heavy duty' glue from the hardware store. So having the exact correct gun/glue combination must be the key.

Please don't consider this a criticism of your methods - it just doesn't work for me. (And a hot air gun chars the dry WRC strips I have here before they ever 'relax' and bend, but that's another issue!)
