I was able to make a plaster off of the seat area of a friends Epic V8 and I can do a layup of the seat surface and tie the layup back into the SurfSki deck but I would consider this a backup plan.
I imagine there could be many games you could play with the plaster mould:
-First thoughts are shaped pcs of veneer adhered to the plaster w/ a waterbased glue and backed by glass. Use water to remove and glass i/s. Strueur kayaks were made in a similar manner.
-Second, same thing but use cold moulding where the veneer diagonally crosses the form in successive layers.
-Third idea is to use short wood strips to build on top of the shape - sort of like building with bricks - say a type of corbelling. I'd mitre the sides of the pcs so that they address the form directly for each run. To keep strip coherence I'd make each strip run out of the same strip. To take your eye from the piecing maybe put a strong thin contrast strip sequence at symmetrical but odd placing.
-Fourth idea is to take readouts [with a profile gauge] from the form and bandsaw pcs to shape and fit together - same idea as the stripwork, but less finish sanding'd be necessary.
-Fifth idea would be to take the form and with a dead flat fairing board, facet the whole form with as large as facets as possible. Then strip up each facet to each other - same idea as some canoe strip builders use on the centre 'football' of their builds.
ideas, anyway.
