This spring I complete a kayak that had been sitting outside unfinished for 7 years. The boat had been glassed but it was compromised and the wood was wet. I stripped the glass off with a heat gun (the blue tape had been on there the whole time) let it dry and sanded and reglassed and completed the boat. I'm pretty happy with the results. A heatgun, putty knife, gloves and pliers were employed in this endeavor.
