The book is a great idea, especially as you describe it. I have a small experience of publishing, and e-books, especially illustrated books, are so much less hassle to produce, and for the public to access... as well as being virtually cost free, especially if you are based in the US. Also royalty percentages are between seven to ten times higher. Obviously they also require no paper, transportation, warehousing, etc, etc, and they can be updated or altered at will. There literally is no downside.
