I don't see this method working well for a few reasons. Assuming that you're going to steam the wood and use a species that bends well:

- How are you going to get all of the strips positioned in your mold while they're still hot?
- How are you going to keep them in place as you press the upper mold in place?
- Assuming that you can get past the above, there will be considerable spring-back in the bent parts, some of which is likely to be uneven, which would complicate gluing them.

There is also one major flaw in your strategy of using two identical molded seats as your strip mold. The bottom mold uses the inner side of the seat, but the top mold uses the outer side, which is larger by the thickness of the material in the seat. Consequently, the two pieces will not nest. To use this technique successfully, the top mold needs to be smaller than the bottom mold by the thickness of your strips, all the way around.
