As others have testified, wooden riggers/wings do work. Anecdotally speaking, a number of my Ruth wherries have been built with wooden riggers without even fiberglass over them. Too, I think that the fact that Colin Angus has used, and still uses, wooden riggers on his expedition boats says a lot about their durability.
