Unless I'm making a local trip I use cockpit covers too. I once had to bail a kayak's cockpit full of water while it was on the roof of the car with a coffee cup (only thing I had) after taking the kayak on the roof to work and having a big rain storm.

With the Micro I'd be tempted to carry it up side down like a canoe. Finding and fitting a cockpit cover that big might be "interesting".
