From someone from CT, its a concern, especially since I just saw a TV article on a woman who lost an arm to one. The gator grabbed her arm and pulled her in. She was in shallow water which saved her life.

Sure, its like getting hit by lightning, but this story on TV, only a few months ago, certainly stayed with me. The women is fine and courageous and still paddles a rec kayak. I compare to sharks and surfing.
When I'm in FL I do pay attention to the Shore when I'm in back waterways.
