I think if I was going to try this, I would carve out a seat from closed cell foam. I would use the heck out of it and once I liked it, I would slice it into strips with either a saw or a hot wire. Each slice would become a pattern for a piece of wood. Then I'd glue the pieces together and finish them up. It may seem like a lot of work, and it may well be, but it also might be the quickest way.

At least that's what I think I'd do.
